Welcome
A warm welcome to you and a thank you for visiting the blog!
Hi there, I’m Meg — Born in England, raised in Perth and recently relocated to regional Victoria where I now live with my two young boys and partner.
My professional journey began as a child and adolescent counsellor within a therapeutic support program for families experiencing parental separation. I then moved into the out-of-home care space, providing child protection assessments and support for kinship carers.
In early 2020, my partner and I welcomed our first child, and I returned to work in October 2022, one year after the birth of our second. I chose to re-enter the workforce in an administration role in a local psychology clinic. Over six months my role gradually transformed into that of practice manager.
Why admin and not counselling?
While my journey into administration might seem like a big shift, it’s been a decision rooted in balance and self care. By working in admin, I still get to be closely involved with the world of psychology and allied health, but in a way that better supports my family and personal well-being. I find a lot of satisfaction in knowing I’m still helping others, just in a different capacity.
Why did I start Virtual Assistance For You?
Work life balance: I struggled to establish the right balance (for me) in management. With a young family I felt the pressure of finding balance sooner rather than later.
No local family: We have no family close by. I wanted to create something that provided us more control to create flexibility and availability when required.
Something to call my own: That ambitious streak. The journey so far has been so empowering - maybe something to speak on further in another post.
Why do I love my job?
Working with psychology and allied health professionals means I still get to be amongst “my people.” It’s rewarding to support practitioners with practical assistance so they can focus on supporting their clients, and also themselves. The work they do is so important—and often not at all easy. I also have the opportunity to use my counselling skills in a different way, supporting the clients of my clients. Knowing that as the first point of contact I’ve provided a warm, welcoming and professional experience is very fulfilling.
Vision
I never saw myself writing a blog and it’s taken six months of working myself up to it. Now that I’m here I’m feeling excited to be entering this space as a contributor. Do I have a clear vision - not particularly. I see this evolving with the business and wherever I may find myself personally. For now, I’m hoping to provide practical tips, support, and insights for administration, psychology and allied health professionals navigating similar paths.
For those who find themselves here - I hope this space provides you with some useful insights and food for thought. Please visit again soon!
